Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits - Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2

Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits

Wow… really. Just wow. I can’t believe how Activision are so up their own arses that they made a game which is to commemorate a very mediocre series. I’m already annoyed by the fact that this game is just some songs from some other games, and with nothing new. And they call it a Greatest Hits? Christ… I could summarise this review in one sentence:
Activision, you idiotic ****ers, get out.
But if you would like to read an actual review then please, be my guest:

Let’s get something straight. GH:GH is all about the first 5 games. Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero 2, Guitar Hero Rock the 80s (which no one played) Guitar Hero 3 and Guitar Hero Aerosmith. Hooray it includes parts (that’s right “parts” not “the whole game”) of 3 ok games one which ruined the series which one blow and a band related game. That’s right I’m talking about the hive of scum and villainy that is Guitar Hero 3. I despise GH3 because it was too challenging. I like a challenge and all but after we overcame this one Guitar Hero became easier then Baby’s First Dot to Dot (The Greatest Hits). So I think Activision were thinking that we should have a game on challenging songs. So instead of doing loads of research (which it smoke weed and listen to rock radio stations) they decide to just take the “hits” from other games. Which is the most laziest excuse to release a game. Remember when Sega released Sonic Mega Collection just to rake in some cash? At least that had full versions of games and artwork. Well GH:GH just has some songs from each game and nothing new attached.

Let’s have a chart on how many songs

Guitar Hero: 13 songs
Guitar Hero 2: 17 songs
Guitar Hero Rock the 80s: 6 songs
Guitar Hero 3: 8 songs
Guitar Hero Aerosmith: 1 song

WTF? 1 GUITAR HERO AEROSMITH SONG?!?! It’s like Activision aren’t even trying anymore. There is really no point pointing in 1 GH:A song when you're supposed to be commemorating it. And it's only Back on the Saddle, which isn't all that great.

Ok there is something new and that the ability to play Drums, Bass and Vocals. Now bare in mind that the series didn’t really care for those before. So the previous game didn’t have much of them going on. However Activision forgot that Guitar Hero was about the Guitar. Bass, Drums and Vocals are absolutely boring in this game It’s like doing a Paper round (The Greatest Hits) whilst a random clown walks pass you. I’d think “What the hell it that doing here?” but the annoying little kids and maybe the casual crowd would go “I love this! I want more to please my Ego!” And why stop at just bringing more instruments to the series? Why not bring the annoying controls from the more recent titles. I never liked how precise the hamstrings and pull-offs are nowadays. Just seems out of place. And no one could ever do Through the Fire and the Flames with precise notes. It’d be like going to a Hurdling Sheep (The Greatest Hits) with a Chihuahua. Oh and speaking of TTFATF:

ALL THE SONGS HAVE BEEN NERFED FOR EVERYONE UNSATIFIED PLEASURE. For a game that loves itself so much it’s pretty ironic to see that they’ve made the songs easier than before. TTFATF is now actually possible to do and the most challenging songs are the ones which no one likes and if you have songs which no one likes then obviously it’s not a Greatest Hit and it shouldn‘t be here. I don’t think Activision took any consideration on which songs should be on here. Well of course Nothin’ but a Good Time by Poison and Thunder Kiss ‘65 by White Zombie should be here. Because they are good songs and sort of challenging to play. What I don’t understand is how Rock you like a Hurricane by Scorpions isn’t here and Miss Murder by AFI is. I hate AFI, they’re like an even more un-likable Marilyn Manson (The Greatest Hits) and Miss Murder is a boring song to play. TTFATF is only here because so many die hard “fans” wanted it, which is ok but why the hell would people want AFI in this.

CONCLUSION

It’s not Guitar Hero. It’s a ripped off version of it. They’re only 48 songs which is almost as low as how many songs Guitar Hero: Van Halen will have. This review is quite short because GH:GH is simply short. Short list of songs, short range of actually good songs and it was a short time I had playing this.

+ It’s better than FoF
- Very limited
- The Guitar part of this game is no longer fun
- Come to think of it, nor is Bass, Drums and Vocals
- Half of the songs are un-enjoyable
