In this exceptionally neat platformer, you play a slow and cautious fellow whose goal it is to escape from some sort of factory setting laden with traps. With the aid only of dexterity and the ability to really regroup yourself after death, you must work though the dozen provided levels. The game's most obvious feature / selling point is the similarities in style that it has with the PS1 game

Another in a recent string of Pipe Dream clones, this version is open source and recreates the feel of the original while updating the graphics to a more modern setting. Connect the pipes from the mans house to his water tank before it spills underground. Fortunately there are some things included in the randomly generated levels to help – or hinder – you. You are given the standard pipes with which to snake together a long one, these are the corner pieces, straight pieces and cross pieces. Also thrown throughout the level are various checkpoints (which you must go through) or “holes in the ground” which temporarily slow the flow of the water. Apart from reiterating the rules to you, there really isn’t much to say about… any “Pipe Dream” variation. It’s pipes – you connect them. You get 20 points for using a piece, 30 for a slow piece and 60 for a cross piece. But what you also get with this version is a nice playing area, really, it looks good, authentic game play and most importantly, its open source – which means whatever operating system you’ve got, you can always enjoy linking pipes together. Who doesn’t enjoy that?

Tomb Raider Underworld -360

Tomb Raider Underworld (Release Date - 2008)

I enjoyed this game from start to finish. Playing it for the first time gave me the same chills, spills & thrills feeling I got from playing the original Tomb Raider back in 96'. I honestly thought I'd never see such debt in a TR game again, but this game proves that TR still has a lot of life in it yet.

The Story
I don't want to give too much away on the story. Tomb Raider Underworld is a direct sequel to Tomb Raider Legend. Lara is on the hunt for Thor's Hammer, Mjölnir, which can open the gate to Helheim so she may get revenge for a friends murder, this friend is murdered during the game itself so I'd rather not spoil. There is a returning character as Lara unravels the truth about her parents, and Amanda's goals ....

Gameplay
I found the gameplay to be rather fun. The control system works fantastically and co-ordinates well with your commands. Along with the usual trigger happy pistol whipping, Lara has a few new tricks up her hot pants, and some returning abilities.

She now has the ability to wall jump, much like Samus Aran did in the Metroid series. This is fun, but limited in some way, because some of the alcoves aren't that high enough. Wall Jump is a key of getting out of certain situations aswell, which I like, because it makes it a part of the puzzles.

Lara can also hit her enemies with melee attacks, this can be better than shooting and causes more damage up close. It also helps build up the adreneline meter a lot faster. The adreneline attack is somewhat similiar to the adreneline attack in Legend rather than the Adreneline Dodge that was in Anniversary. Takes a while to get the hang of it, but once you do, you rarely ever miss and it kills any enemy, no matter how big, instantly. The grapple hook returns, and this time it comes in more useful ways than swinging and climbing.

You get to select a power gun at the start of each mission along with your pistols, but you can select another weapon if you want during gameplay by opening the inventory menu in your PDA.The motorbike again returns this time, and for a few stages. Only now you have the freedom to hop off the bike anytime you like, mostly to solve puzzles that open a path for you and your bike, or to collect treasures.

Like in Tomb Raider Anniversary you can jump poles, climb them and swing. Some poles are switches and require a timed run. You can also balance walk on poles and ruined ledges. There's also some fancy footwork added with flipping and kart-wheeling to dodge enemy attacks. I never bothered with this, and feel it's just for showing off.

It's mediocre in difficulty in normal mode, it's, most of the time, smoothly paste, you can take your time with most of it, and give yourself time to think, while puzzle solving.

The Environments
The environments work well with gameplay like a fusion, you look at something in the distance and it turns out to be a part of your adventure. The atmosphere can get clostrophobic in some areas, especially when enemies attack, which can get annoying sometimes as they can knock you off ledges when you time the jumps wrong.

As you progress through this amazing game the environments just become even more incredible. Some places are exotic, while others are ruined, then there's the deep sea stages, which I'm glad to say, have a snorkle, so Lara won't drown this time. There's a lot of beautiful scenery. I'd rather not mention the locations you visit, takes the fun out've it.

The puzzles are a part of the environments, and the game seems to be revolved around them mostly, rather than the action, they're not really that difficult to figure out though, which lets it down slightly.

Graphics
The graphics can be slightly blocky sometimes, while in other parts they take your breath away. The camera angle can get twitchy and Lara does fall behind, what's supposed to be, solid rock. It rarely happens though, unlike Anniversary, which had glitches all over it. As for Lara herself, they polished her off nicely, she gets dirty, you can also hear her breathing as she moves. The enemies look so realistic in movement. They've added a motion blur effect when they attack, which is a nice touch.

Body Movement and Voice Acting
Body movement and Voice Acting are absolutely superb, I honestly don't see any flaw with the animations in cutscenes what so ever. The character movement in the cutscnes are slightly similiar to that of the Devil May Cry series. They're enjoyable to watch.

Overall
This game has been a delight to play and I really hope that Crystal Dynamics keep taking it in this direction. It feels like a breakthrough. Tomb Raider Underworld was designed specifically for next-gen consoles and I believe this is probably where they went wrong by focusing the series too much on last gen gameplay.

It has a lot of dept , exploration, adventuring along with a couple of puzzles to solve. There's action, but little which is where Tomb Raider belongs in my opinion. Tomb Raider games often get frustrating eventually and I find myself yelling at the screen, but I'm surprised this time it didn't happen, because they finally did it right.

If you're not a TR fan, and like adventure games with some puzzle solving, then why not make this your next purchase.

Tomb Raider fans who've enjoyed Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider IV and Legend will possibly love it!

A well deserved ...

FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 4 - Xbox 360

FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 4 - Xbox 360

Intro
The world of gaming isn’t known for its physical attributes, most gamers are stereotyped as fat and lazy or slim and weak. For most, this is the case, but maybe with the release of Fight Night they can feel powered, especially when they beat their muscled neighbour who hasn’t got a clue what a console is. You might have thought that fight night wouldn’t go down well with gamers, but with the fourth instalment of the series it’s true to say that Fight Night is a knockout with gamers.

Gameplay
Countering is more important then ever in Fight Night Round 4, and is mandatory if you want to win titles. The game play mechanic is still the same (beat the life out of the other guy and make sure he doesn’t do the same). There are few new features like the corner game; if you do well in the ring your trainer collects points to use between rounds to regain health, damage and stamina. You can do this manually or auto which is probably the best one. It’s still very repetative which is the biggest problem with this game, and to be honest, that probably won’t change over time.

Graphics/Sound
As you start up the game you instantly see how brilliant the graphics are in Fight Night. The detail of the fighters is very superior, and you can really see the blood and sweat. The lighting is probably the best visually wise, because you get a good feeling of being in an actual ring, and this helps with the other visual aspects. The crowd are still poor and look very basic, when you do get a knock out the replay has the same impact sound wherever you hit them, whether it is the body or head. Talking of replays, the feature is probably the best you can get in a sports game most notable the option to free roam around the ring.

Controls
The controls are one of the main things that have changed and it has split people’s opinions. The main punch control is the right stick which is fittingly named “Total Punch Control”. In my opinion it feels realistic seeing in real life, you won’t land the actual punch you intended. You have the dodge and block with the triggers and the face buttons for other moves. New free DLC will include different control options that use the face buttons. It does feel good the controls, and you will probably not change them when you begin to play.

Legacy Mode
Legacy mode is the equivalent to a career mode and actually is a let down. You see there are two major problems. Number one is the training, for a start it’s unbelievably boring and sometimes you’ll just have to skip it. Number two it’s just boring in general, there hasn’t been a time when I actually felt excited about something new happening and there isn’t much diversity. It’s just training then fight training then fight training then fight and after a short amount of time it gets boring. The legacy rating is alright but isn’t very original.

Online
In Fight Night you have online capability which like the legacy mode is a bit boring. You have quick match and the world championship. The quick match is pretty much what it says on the tin and is very boring, it can either be a fight were both of you just keep hitting each other or it can be a match where no one hits because the other one will eventually counter. The world championship is where you use a created boxer (usually from legacy mode) and pit them against other people's created boxers). There are 3 weight classes (lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight) and everyone’s stats are the same. Its pretty much quick match but with a league table. There is one good thing about online and that is the boxer share. Boxer share is were people put up their own boxers and setting files. There are some pretty good ones from Borat to Barack Obama and from Ghandi to Gollum.

Conclusion
With brilliant visuals and with not so brilliant game play, it’s kind of a mixed bag. Fight now is probably the best game mode and is great to have fights with modern and classic fighters. The main problem with the game is the repetativeness which will never go away. With some new DLC coming I think many people will be playing it for a long time. Fight Night maybe wasn’t the best game in the series, but it got people there boxing fix for another year.

Prototype - Xbox 360, PS3 and PC

Prototype - Xbox 360, PS3 and PC

Prototype, the new game from Radical Entertainment set its sights high and well delivered on most of them.

Story-Prototype follows the character of Alex Mercer. He has been infected with a virus and the virus has also been released into Manhattan. Alex is attempting to find out why this has happened to him. While the story is no Mass Effect it is acceptable and is never noticeably bad. However an interesting feature is having Alex’s back-story told through “consume events.” The consume events are people who you can hunt down in the city and absorb their body mass. This then triggers a short event which shows the persons memories. So gradually you begin to understand what happened to Alex.

Graphics- The black sheep of the features. While Alex is running on the streets and among close quarters the graphics are acceptable, however when gliding or at high heights the graphics are lost a bit. While gliding, texture loss can sometimes be seen and the orbs (explained later) pop in and out of view.

Gameplay- Prototype is based around Alex Mercer and how he has been infected with a virus. This virus grants him the ability to, in a word, shapeshift. So over the course of the game you will utilise your ability to run straight up walls and glide. When combat is called for Alex can utilise many offensive powers such as claws, whips and blades, all of which are moulded from his arms. To complement his offensive powers come some defensive powers (shields) and sensory powers (thermal vision, etc). While some of these upgrades are automatically awarded to you for completing story missions there is also a massive upgrades menu. More and more upgrades are added to this menu over time as you progress in the story. The menu is separated into “tabs” which relate to a specific type of upgrade (powers, movement, combat, vehicle etc). So as well as upgrading Alex’s powers you can also buy upgrades like huge elbow slams, bulletdive drops and cannonballs. To contemplate all of Alex’s potential powers, by consuming certain military commanders you gain the ability to use vehicles like helicopters and tanks. While the vehicles are nothing special they are tremendous fun and provide something else to do. All these upgrades are bought through Evolution Point. EP is awarded for everything you do whether its completing a mission or just killing people in the streets.

Extras
While there is a complete lake of online play there is plenty to do the story is finished. The freeroaming city of Manhattan is still there to explore and search for 200 landmark orbs and 50 hint orbs. And if collecting orbs doesn’t sound too interesting then there are heaps of side quests scattered around the city which range from rooftop races, to killing as many characters as possible in a time limit and much more. You can infiltrate military bases and destroy infected hives. Also when you have completed the game, there is an option to start a new game+ which allows you to start again with all the upgrades you have bought. However, Prototype does fall into the trap of repetition. Most of the story missions aren’t overly different and the mindless civilian killing can become repetitive.

Summary
In conclusion I found Prototype amazing. There is a huge open world and a huge range of powers to choose from as well as an average length story and plenty of side quests to keep you occupied. However the repetition and lacklustre graphics hold it back from getting a perfect score. However Prototype offers such as enjoyable sandbox that you should at least give it a try. I give it a well deserved

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - 360

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I know I'm uber-cool. Heck, everyone knows I'm uber-cool, but when a game acknowledges how uber-cool I am, it instantly wins my love from that alone. Luckily, Bethesda know the way to my heart, and have assured my love through the ego-inflating yet undeniably annoying adoring fan. He just follows you around until he gets mauled by a passing daedra, but the fact that he refers to you as "Oh great and mighty Grand Champion" means he's worth sticking in the game, and worth speaking to once. And never again.

It's also worth noting that Bethesda put an awful lot of other cool stuff into Oblivion. Such as flower picking. However, they even went to the trouble of putting basic, mundane, everyday tasks in, such as sneaking aboard pirate ships and assassinating the captain, entering yourself for fierce gladitorial fights to the death, or simply saving the world. The work that they've put into the little details is astounding. Oblivion is, in case you've been living in one of the many fusty caves littering Cyrodiil, an open world game. After exiting the sewers near the start of the game, you can either proceed with the whole apocalypse prevention procedure or completely disregard all that you have witnessed in the first half hour of the game. If you choose the former, you'll spend the next hour of your new life chatting up a priest who actually happens to be heir to the throne, only to find that he'll only follow you home if you slap about a couple of scabby-faced ruffians who set fire to half of his neighbourhood. The latter choice will take you anywhere you happen to end up. It's all a bit hit and miss there, although eventually you'll probably end up finding your way into one of the guilds. Or you'll spend the rest of your life sucking the moisture from rocks, whiling away the hours talking to mud crab.

Called Ted.

Whichever path you choose, you'll always be in Cyrodiil, which has more places to go than you're likely to have time for. Luckily, there are also more things to do than you're likely to have time for, such as the above mentioned world-saving, or foiling a shopkeeper's evil plan to... sell cheap goods. The concept of all of these one off quests are great, and happily, they're all played out in equally great greatness. Huzzah! There as many different quests as quests you might want to do, and most people seem to have something troubling them. Oh, my flagon of ale has been stolen. Oh, my cat jumped off of a bridge. Oh, my sword has grown toenails, etc etc etc. As is so often the case in video gaming, most of the quests involve killing whoever the villain may be, rather than say, having a chat over a mug of ale. Ah well. I suppose omitting peaceful solutions is an accurate simulation of life.

When opening up a huge game world to explore, it's easy to just hope that the player may become so immersed that they won't notice that you've skimped on the graphics. Graphics skimping, however, has been skimped on in Oblivion. Your weapon shimmers in the light, orcs look as pig ugly and John Prescott-like as they should, and you can get some truly brilliant views. The only problem is with these views, in fact: the game only loads your immediate area. This leaves anything beyond that looking like a pre-schooler's snotted up papier mache replica of Old Trafford. On the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions you're stuck with this, but the PC version has a fascicle of mods available to make the game more pleasing on the eye. That said, even without the mods, Oblivion is still a beautiful game.

On the subject of mods, there are an awful lot that the community has now churned out. Any problems, no matter how obscure, that vanilla Oblivion had, have been ironed out by modders. One such gripe that angered many a fan was the lack of snail racing. That has since been corrected though, and you are now free to bet on and spectate this sport of kings (Once you've installed the mod, of course).

And now we arrive at the obligatory "things which this game fluffed up" part of the review. The most major problem is the combat system, which features a "block" button and a "swipe wildly in the enemy's general direction" button. You're not going to pull off Devil May Cry style combos however hard you may try, and the system's incredible lack of depth is what puts me off the warrior classes. Instead, I opt to sneak around in the shadows, picking off my targets with a well-placed arrow (and a 3x sneak damage bonus). Ranged attacks are much more interesting, the projectiles staying lodged in your target's throat until you pluck them back out. Or, if you're like me, leave them in and screenshot it, you sadistic *******.

The game is also (On 360 at least) a little sluggish at some points when you're skipping through the countryside. On all platforms, there is occasional slowdown as the game loads the next area, yet the Xbox 360 version's frame rate seems to be a little more erratic than it would be on a decent computer. Saying that, the frame rate problem is slight, and you'll barely notice it thanks to all the fun you'll have killing goblins. Oh joy.

All in all, Oblivion is an open world RPG which stands head and shoulders above its peers. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, and the combat is far from the best you'll find, but Cyrodiil has been wonderfully crafted. Much like the under-garments of an inebriated Keira Knightly, it's a place you can't afford not to explore.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi - PS2

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi - Playstation 2 (Released October 6th 2005)

This is the first of the Tenkaichi series to come from the Dragon Ball Z games and contains enough gameplay to keep a gamer occupied for around 2 weeks or so, maybe more. With 56 fully playable characters and 16 stages of battle, each of these battle grounds are all made up of elements relevant to the animated series of Dragon Ball Z. Right from the beginning to the end of the show, with tutorials and practice matches it doesnt matter if you have seen or played previous Dragon Ball/ Dragon Ball Z games, controllers are very easy and adept to use.

Some battles seem impossible, some matches end in under a minute, whether your fighting in the sky, under water, ground or in a different dimension it always remains action packed. It doesnt get harder as you fight your way through the game, its a good "beat or be beat game" either way, watching your favourite characters coming through victorious is always a good thing.

You can replay each and every single battle which occurs in the show, which is a great feature for any Dragon Ball Z fan, as well as being able to collect the Dragon Balls to unlock hints, tips, cheats and a selection of others, this all adds on to the fairness adventure of the game.

I personally really enjoy this game's features such as the 3D destructable surroundings and the gradual "Look how you feel" as you're health decreases the appearance of the character becomes more rugged. Could be referred to as a "Faster Tekken". It's a real controller buster, before starting a game be sure to have an array of controllers and nerves of steel!

Negatives are as follows:- An extortionate amount of loading screens, frequent pauses and jams whilst selecting character, very annoying music! no auto saves, but the most unappealing about this is the lack of valuable cut scenes that are very important to non watchers of the series!

I strongly recommend that any Dragon Ball Z fan should try this game out.

Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits - Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2

Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits

Wow… really. Just wow. I can’t believe how Activision are so up their own arses that they made a game which is to commemorate a very mediocre series. I’m already annoyed by the fact that this game is just some songs from some other games, and with nothing new. And they call it a Greatest Hits? Christ… I could summarise this review in one sentence:
Activision, you idiotic ****ers, get out.
But if you would like to read an actual review then please, be my guest:

Let’s get something straight. GH:GH is all about the first 5 games. Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero 2, Guitar Hero Rock the 80s (which no one played) Guitar Hero 3 and Guitar Hero Aerosmith. Hooray it includes parts (that’s right “parts” not “the whole game”) of 3 ok games one which ruined the series which one blow and a band related game. That’s right I’m talking about the hive of scum and villainy that is Guitar Hero 3. I despise GH3 because it was too challenging. I like a challenge and all but after we overcame this one Guitar Hero became easier then Baby’s First Dot to Dot (The Greatest Hits). So I think Activision were thinking that we should have a game on challenging songs. So instead of doing loads of research (which it smoke weed and listen to rock radio stations) they decide to just take the “hits” from other games. Which is the most laziest excuse to release a game. Remember when Sega released Sonic Mega Collection just to rake in some cash? At least that had full versions of games and artwork. Well GH:GH just has some songs from each game and nothing new attached.

Let’s have a chart on how many songs

Guitar Hero: 13 songs
Guitar Hero 2: 17 songs
Guitar Hero Rock the 80s: 6 songs
Guitar Hero 3: 8 songs
Guitar Hero Aerosmith: 1 song

WTF? 1 GUITAR HERO AEROSMITH SONG?!?! It’s like Activision aren’t even trying anymore. There is really no point pointing in 1 GH:A song when you're supposed to be commemorating it. And it's only Back on the Saddle, which isn't all that great.

Ok there is something new and that the ability to play Drums, Bass and Vocals. Now bare in mind that the series didn’t really care for those before. So the previous game didn’t have much of them going on. However Activision forgot that Guitar Hero was about the Guitar. Bass, Drums and Vocals are absolutely boring in this game It’s like doing a Paper round (The Greatest Hits) whilst a random clown walks pass you. I’d think “What the hell it that doing here?” but the annoying little kids and maybe the casual crowd would go “I love this! I want more to please my Ego!” And why stop at just bringing more instruments to the series? Why not bring the annoying controls from the more recent titles. I never liked how precise the hamstrings and pull-offs are nowadays. Just seems out of place. And no one could ever do Through the Fire and the Flames with precise notes. It’d be like going to a Hurdling Sheep (The Greatest Hits) with a Chihuahua. Oh and speaking of TTFATF:

ALL THE SONGS HAVE BEEN NERFED FOR EVERYONE UNSATIFIED PLEASURE. For a game that loves itself so much it’s pretty ironic to see that they’ve made the songs easier than before. TTFATF is now actually possible to do and the most challenging songs are the ones which no one likes and if you have songs which no one likes then obviously it’s not a Greatest Hit and it shouldn‘t be here. I don’t think Activision took any consideration on which songs should be on here. Well of course Nothin’ but a Good Time by Poison and Thunder Kiss ‘65 by White Zombie should be here. Because they are good songs and sort of challenging to play. What I don’t understand is how Rock you like a Hurricane by Scorpions isn’t here and Miss Murder by AFI is. I hate AFI, they’re like an even more un-likable Marilyn Manson (The Greatest Hits) and Miss Murder is a boring song to play. TTFATF is only here because so many die hard “fans” wanted it, which is ok but why the hell would people want AFI in this.

CONCLUSION

It’s not Guitar Hero. It’s a ripped off version of it. They’re only 48 songs which is almost as low as how many songs Guitar Hero: Van Halen will have. This review is quite short because GH:GH is simply short. Short list of songs, short range of actually good songs and it was a short time I had playing this.

+ It’s better than FoF
- Very limited
- The Guitar part of this game is no longer fun
- Come to think of it, nor is Bass, Drums and Vocals
- Half of the songs are un-enjoyable

Modern Warfare 2 - Xbox360 - Ps3 - P.C

Modern Warfare 2-Xbox 360, PS3, PC

So, the biggest game of 2009, in a review. That’s harder than it sounds.

Since you are on this site then it is a safe bet that you know how Modern Warfare 1 blasted onto the scene in 2007. Reviews were raving; here was a game that challenged the gaming juggernaut that was Halo 3. And with good reason for Modern Warfare was a spectacular game all around. While the single player was short, it was also relentless, interesting and just damn fun. But it was the multiplayer which really lit the bomb. Even to this day it is still one of the most played games on Live.

But enough about Modern Warfare, this review is about the fresh new beast. Modern Warfare 2 has arrived and it was well worth the wait. Veterans of MW will recognise the style of the campaign and the drip feed of multiplayer while marvelling at the new spec-ops mode.

Story/Campaign

Disappointed by the short story of MW? Sorry but MW2 wont rectify that. It generally clocks in at around 6 hours. However that being said, while the campaign lasts, it is tremendous fun. There are some missions that are absolutely gold such as “Cliffhanger” and “The Gulag.” Other missions feel similar to MW. There was a similar level to “All Ghillied Up” for instance. That doesn’t mean that Infinity Ward is recycling old levels though. It’s still fresh, unique and delivers a new experience. As for the actual story; it was brilliant. As in previous COD games, there are multiple characters you play as throughout the story. The problem with this is; I only really felt a connection with 2 of them. I won’t say who they are but the other 2 characters just didn’t hold that emotional connection. The story unfolds really nicely; there are twists and backstabs and the final scene in particular can really tug at your heartstrings. The ending I really enjoyed but I can confidently say that some will despise it. Let’s say that one of the two storylines tied up properly. But that’s enough griping. Seriously, the campaign is excellent, well presented and does the series proud.

Multiplayer

MW veterans will recognise this instantly. On the surface it is still the same game that you have been playing for 2 years. You begin at level 1 and start to work your way up to level 70 by playing in matches. As you level up you unlock more weapons and RPGish perks. Levelling up is much more satisfying this time around. Rather than just earning points for killing people there are also extra points for things like the first kill in the game and stopping an enemy short of a killstreak. This is a good addition as it adds more variety to the online play. And as for variety, there is a heck of a lot of it. On the surface there is a large amount of game types to play. Some are what you know and love from online gaming while others can be a bit different. And of course there is all the customisation for the various weapons. In MW 1 you could choose between a red dot sight, silencer or ACOG scope for each gun. In MW 2 thermal vision, rapid fire, holographic sight, FMJ and akimbo are added to the list along with a few other doozys. There are less perks this time round but they are more fleshed out. For example, stopping power gives you more damage against enemies; but if you earn a certain amount of kills with stopping power then it will be upgraded to stopping power pro which increases damage against vehicles. This all lets you mould your character into something you would rather play as. However, while all the additions to weapons and perks is extremely good maybe some customisation to your actual character would breathe even more into the game. However I am rather unsure about this as seeing 10 people run around in stupidly bright colours as seen in Vegas 2 would look awful for MW 2. The entire online side is just so much better balanced this time round. This begins with the secondary weapons. In MW 1, your secondary was a pistol. Now in MW 2, shotguns have been moved to a secondary position. Also added are the likes of machine pistols and javelins/stingers/big massive grenade launchers. This is excellent for snipers as they now no longer have to survive on just a pistol if someone gets too close. Kill streaks are more implemented this time round. In MW 1 there was a reward at 3,5 and 7. Now there are various rewards that go up to 15 and then 1 at 25. However you are still only allowed 3 of them. So now you have the option of choosing which ones to unlock and equip. I won’t spoil the surprise of what you can get at 25 but rest assured you will be blown away. Another new addition is the inclusion of death streaks. Obviously these are the opposite of kill streaks; die a certain number of times without killing and get a reward to help you recover. Martyrdom and Last Stand have been moved to this position along with newbies like Copycat and Painkiller. To top it off, all these features have been incorporated into the offline play for split screen and system link for the guys who don’t like to go online. Now there is one more thing I would like to mention. There is now a 3rd person mode for both online and offline play. This is available in certain playlists online and can be turned on in match settings offline. In short, it’s a lot of fun and makes me play in a new way compared to the 1st person mode. My issue with it is: it looks lazily done. The characters don’t really have a sense of urgency with their movements and leg movements look like something out of Fallout 3’s 3rd person. Compared to how the characters out of Gears of War move it looks rather rubbish. However, any problems are quickly forgotten as you actually start playing.

Now I am making a special paragraph for the maps because they fully deserve it. They are all brilliantly designed and each work for specific playing styles. From the tiny map of Rust to the massive open map of Favela which encourages being on the roofs, there is sure to be a map which you will love.

Special Ops

Another new addition to the COD series. In World at War, the Nazi zombie mode was a nice new feature, but that was all it was, a feature. This is a fully realised and separate game mode that kicks Nazi zombies on its ass. There are 22 separate missions in here with 3 stars that can be earnt on each. What’s more is that all of these missions have been designed with co-op in mind. And co-op is where it is truly at. Pushing through with a friend in tow is just so much fun compared to going it alone. All of these missions truly feel unique even though a couple use the same locations. I you loved the AC-130 from MW 1 then you will be delighted to know there is a mission dedicated to it while you protect your friend on the ground. Other missions have you shooting from a helicopter, creeping past enemy patrols in the snow, an arcade style shootout and racing snowmobiles. This mode certainly does not take a secondary role compared to the campaign and multiplayer. It is just as much a proper mode as they are. My only complaint is that 4 player co-op would be incredible rather than just 2.

Modern-Warfare-2.jpg

I’m reminded of a time about 6 months ago now. My friend and I were walking and discussing what improvements could be made to MW 1 to make MW 2 even better. In truth we had an extremely short list. Basically more customisation for guns, more maps and co-op was all we could come up with. We really couldn’t come up with more. What Infinity Ward has done is such an improvement over what was an amazing game to start with. The multiplayer has about a million little refinements, the campaign is cinematic and awesome and spec-ops is incredible. The graphics of course are gorgeous, voices are believable and sound is spot on. This all makes the game incredibly hard to score. In my opinion, this is the best shooter currently available. I have never given a 10 before to any game I have ever reviewed over the years. Some see the 10 as indicating a flawless game. I don’t see it this way. I see a 10 as a game which has been finished to an incredible level which most don’t achieve.

So for the first time in my reviewing history I score this game >

Fallout 3 - PC - 360 - PS3

Fallout 3 - PC, Xbox 360, PS3 - 2008

If you have played the previous series, playing this, you’ll probably end up with a question like this: “is this what I expected?” well actually no, the game has almost the same story with the previous ones, and fallout 3 has some minor problems, but lets take them all one by one.

Starting the game, you’ll feel it real, playing as a child, as a teen and as an adult, in encounters every time you succeed a vats finishing shot your enemies’ heads pop-off or you dismember them and so on, while attempting a skill(like hack) you actually attempt the skill in a “mini-game” you actually do something and take the risk on your own, and if you fail you can’t try again (except if you have a certain perk), the graphic are cool. Your mission is to find your father, who is a runaway citizen from vault 101 which human created to keep them safe from radiation, no one would enter or leave vault 101. Following your dad you end up in a huge wasteland, wondering around and ask information about your dads’ position. You’ll enter in many towns, you chose to help people (good karma) or harm people (bad karma), but the problem is: IT DOESN’T MATTER IF IT’S A GOOD KARMA OR BAD! You can actually change your karma in an instance just by doing some minor repeatable quests, so the whole karma system is ****.

Out in the wastelands you’ll encounter random enemies. So you have this first person view or third person view, you aim and shoot, and there is the V.A.T.S. system. A system that by pressing one button you stop the time, and you have the ability to choose certain parts of your enemy (like torso, head, arms), select how many times you want to hit, and then the computer takes the control of your player and it takes the shots for you. The slow motion graphics and the zoom and the nice point of view actions is something fascinating, but imagine in a fps game the special combat action is to freeze the time and to leave the computer do everything, and yes computer has a better change of hitting the target, and I think it will increase the possibility of a critical strike. And the item system, while encountering enemies you can press another button, and the time stops AGAIN, you can heal yourself, buff up yourself, change weapon, and there you go! a new look.

Ok the items, the majority of the items are useless pieces of junk but most of them are very expensive from ashtrays to conductors. When you kill an enemy, you can take everything from them and then you can violate their bodies, but anyway, you have a weigh capacity, and after killing 5 raiders, you are full and you walk really slow and you can’t fast traveler to a city, so you have to throw something, go back to the city, store the items, come back and take the others, this is NOT fun. Then you probably say “why hell you take those items” well if you won’t take them you’ll have no money to repair, buy ammo, etc. From the other hand the game allow you to kill anyone, you can actually massacre the whole city and take EVERYTHING but you will lose karma (something you don’t care) and you lose quest (= a huge amount of exp).

Skills and perks, skills are essential, and as a good role-playing game you’ll have to choose 3-4 main skills to advance. You can choose to use small guns and hack computers, picklock and science and the list goes on, but you can’t have them all balanced, actually the game always has 2-3 options, like if you can’t picklock the strongbox, you can hack the computer and unlock it from there, and if you have balanced skills then you will end up doing nothing. You can choose one perk per level, perks is like feat in D&D something bonus, basically more skill points. Perks can lead to a good combination of perks and skills mixed up, there is a good amount of perks for every type of a character you wanna be.

Npc and every day life, THEY ARE TERRIBLE, you can actually go to everyone’s house and steal anything you want in front of their own eyes, and they will do nothing to stop you, and then you talk to them and they are like “hey my friend, did you find your dad yet?” not to mention the pickpocket thing, the assassination, you can almost kill one by one each citizen in a town and citizens DON’T CARE about it. And your enemies are like 3 types? There are super mutants, orcs in rpg language, raiders, bandits in rpg language and some annoying radiation **** “animals”.

My personal opinion is that after playing a while, its kind of feels like a routine, encountering the same enemies, talking to the same voices, visiting the same wasteland fields. And the worse is that the game has NO bosses, there are some mini bosses whom you’ll enjoy, but there are no main bosses, and I was waiting for a great boss and I saved all my nukes, just to find NOTHING. Fallout 3 has some absolutely pointless and stupid skills, imagine a wasteland full of creature with radiation, and there is Jackie Chan trying to save the world?! With what kind of logic would a man fist fight some gigantic mutants, or gargantuan ants FULL OF RADIATION, and not only the idea, but each mutant has a MINIGUN with him. Or there is melee weapon skill, almost the same thing, but there are no good melee weapons in fallout 3, there are some kind of swords, but then you’ll come up with a common weapon called the ripper, which is more effective than any other sword. And the ripper (a one-handed chainsaw sword) strikes so fast, that the melee skill is USELESS. The game tried to put music, which sucks btw, and the music never change, you’ll go into combat, you will go fatal life but the music remains the same, something in modern gaming is bad. To sum up, if you enjoyed playing the old fallout games, you will enjoy this one, if you like oblivion (people says that fallout 3 is oblivion with guns) you will probably enjoy it too. This game could be better, vats system really takes you out of the fps gaming. I enjoyed fallout by killing EVERYONE.

fink injured in motorcycle accident

Helo you probably think that this would be written by fink. But im sorry to inform you that he has been injured in a motorcycle crash and is in the hospital. at around 6 pm yesterday he was riding down state road 82 about 5 miles from our house when a oncoming car came into his lane and forced him off the road. when the bike went off the road he was ejected from the bike slid along the grass for about 40 yards and hit a tree. a passing car stopped and called an ambulance. at that point i recieved a call from the sheriff officer that responded to the accident telling me that the were taking him to lee memorial hospital and that he would be receiving treatment there. he underwent surgery to stop the internal bleeding due to his lung being punctured. he also has multipul fractures including 6 broken ribs, collar bone, both bones in left forearm left hand, right hand right forearm and right femur. the doctors have some concerns that he could have damaged his right kidney. right now he is in stable condition and doing well. when he woke up i asked him what he remembered. and he told me that he remembered going off the road and hitting the ground. after that he remembers tumbling and then waking up in the hospital. He asked me to do this so that you guys would know what is going on. He tells me all the time about some of the people that he talks too on here. and holds some of the relationships he has formed here in high regards. my daughters and i hope that he will out of the hospital soon and i will keep you updated as i can. sorry if i didn't put this in the right section. he complains of that when he does his mod thing on here. lol

Post subject: SEO settings result in 404 error

Hi,

Joomla (1.5.6) has been working fine with all 3 SEO settings ON in my website. The server had the PHP running as an Apache mod. After I got my server changed to be able to use FastCGI, though perhaps not related to FastCGI, I get 404 error with some pages, and SEF URLs are not displayed. I have been unsuccessfully trying different SEO Settings and changing .htaccess so far, following instructions from this forum.

This is what I found:
Regardless of the SEO setting, articles which are 'uncategorised' eg. pages like about.html always work. When 'Search Engine Friendly URLs' & 'Use Apache mod_rewrite' are ON the SEF URLs are displayed correctly, eg.
http://www.mysite.com.au/about.html
And, when these settings are OFF, the same URL is diplayed, as expected:
http://www.mysite.com.au/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=65

However, articles that have been assigned to various Sections and Categories do not display the SEF urls regardless of these settings. They are always like: http://www.mysite.com.au/noideas&catid= ... &Itemid=70. And, with these 2 SEO settings ON, these pages return with 404 error. I have also tried with a clean install of Joomla and the sample pages like "Welcome to Joomla" always have 404 error.

When these two settings are OFF, these pages reroute/forward to the frontpage again (browser displays the URL, eg: http://www.mysite.com.au/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=65) and no 404 error. The actual page is not displayed.

htaccess.txt has been renamed to .htaccess, and is located in the root. Joomla is installed in the root. Rewriterule (.*) http://www.google.com takes you to Google.
Here is the htaccess file and info from JST-post. See the error messages displayed (in red) in the 404 page. Thank you in advance for your help.

Jungle Games Were Never So Fun! A Review of Timon and Pumbaa's Jungle Games

the joy of playing has just arrived. Timon & Pumbaa's Jungle Games is geared toward the younger kids, but has more than enough fun and entertainment for gamers of all ages. When you first begin the game, you're treated to a fantastic introduction starring, of course, Timon and Pumbaa. They take the player to their Jungle Arcade where there are 5 games available for play. Most of the games are familiar adaptations of older arcade hits. With fancy graphics and humor only Disney could think of, each game is a joy to play.

The main menu is where the adventures begin. The menu is crawling with animals and bugs. The player can click on practically anything on the screen and something will happen. It's almost a game within itself. From the menu are the 5 selectable games. When one of the games is chosen, Timon and Pumbaa race over to the game you've selected and explain how to play the game. It's pretty hilarious to hear these two try and explain the games. It's like a scene right from the Lion King. Each game is different from the other as detailed below.

The first game I tried out was Jungle Pinball. The first thing that was noticeable were the detailed graphics. They are extremely clear and vibrant, as if they were taken right from the cartoon. The controls are simple enough to understand. The right and left flippers are used by pressing the "/" and "z" keys respectively. The pill bug, Disney's variation of the pinball, is launched by pressing the "enter" key. The game starts you off with 3 pill bugs and the object is to rack up as many points as possible. There are many hidden areas and bonuses to uncover. Timon, Pumbaa and a host of other characters appear as targets. Complete with zany sound effects and voices, this game kept me coming back for more. Pinball has never been so much fun!

Burper was the next game I tried out. Pumbaa is the controllable character in this addictive game. He's located at the bottom of the playing field while Timon is nearby shaking a tree. All sorts of goodies fall from the tree and it's Pumbaa's job to prevent the objects from hitting the ground. He does this by using his powerful burps. You gain points by hitting the different bugs before they touch the ground. If they do make it to the ground, they will come after you. You can stop the bugs by hitting them with Pumbaa's tail. If he gets hit by one of the falling objects or bitten by a bug too many times, you'll lose one of your tries. As in pinball, you only get 3 tries, so be careful! When you have managed to stop a certain amount of bugs, you will advance to the next level where they begin to fall at a faster rate. See how far you can get!

The next game brought back some memories of the arcade classic, Frogger. While not exactly the same, Hippo Hop shares some of the same play mechanics. The object is to help Timon cross the river with an ingredient that Pumbaa needs for his barbecue. The ingredients are placed on the logs and animals that are floating on the river. Pumbaa yells which one he needs, and you must leap from obstacle to obstacle to get the ingredient and deliver it to him on the other side. If you slip into the water or run out of time, you lose a try. You have 5 tries per game, so be careful.

In the mood for a puzzle game? If so, Bug Drop is Disney's version of Tetris. This is the one game that's 2 player simultaneous. You can challenge one of your friends or play against Timon or Pumbaa. Different colored bugs fall from the top of the screen. By lining up 4 of the same colored bugs, they will disappear. If you can manage to take out more than 4 bugs at once, you'll send some over to your friend. Don't let them stack up to the top, or the game will be over. Oh yeah, don't be surprised if Timon and Pumbaa give a little advice to you while you play the game. This game will have you playing for hours. Just like Tetris, you can't stop playing!

The final game available is Slingshooter. This is probably the simplest game to play. The object is to sling berries at the targets that Timon and Pumbaa have made up. Also, take aim at the hyenas and other scary beasts that lurk in the jungle. Be sure not to hit Pumbaa, Timon or their friends. The action is fast, so stay on your toes!

All 5 games are a blast to play. Each game keeps score and if you obtain a high score, you're name can be entered. If you're number 1, you'll become King of the jungle games. Each game is simple to learn and loaded with fun. Younger kids will especially enjoy this game. I soon found out that it's more than enough fun for gamers of all ages when my mom and dad sat down and played for a couple of hours. The graphics are excellent and the voices are straight from the movie. Each game will keep you coming back for more. This title has it all, and then some. It really is amazing that this is the first game Disney Interactive has made! They could have fooled me. Luckily they have many more titles scheduled to come out. Timon & Pumbaa's Jungle Games is highly recommended and great gaming for the entire family. You simply can't go wrong with this purchase! 'Nuff said!

getting back into the swing of things

Oh, it has been so long since I have found moments of time to indulge myself in blogging. I really do feel bad, but I had so many other things going on that I had to put in front of my "blogging" ... I really do miss it. I have a mind full of excuses for you that seem to justify it all, but I will save you and just try to find a few moments a week to start up again.

So a lot has changed since I last, truly blogged.

We traveled a lot this summer! Ray and Ruth took us to Colorado Springs, and I fell in love with the place, I truly want to go back there every year which I am sure will not happen! I took Emily to Georgia to see her Uncle Scott and had a lot of fun. And, I took Eva to Michigan to visit our best friends Lisa & Hannah.

Camden turned 8 this past summer, and he is already half way to 9! Eva turned 4 in October, and Emily is almost 7 so things are just really changing here.

Camden is in third grade this year and is enjoying chess club, reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid and The Chronicles of Narnia. Emily is in first grade and she is just full of life! She loves school and really does want to grow up and teach Kindergarten someday. She too loves to read and dance. This weekend she has cheer leading camp and is very excited as this is her first year to do it. Eva keeps me busy, three days a week she goes to a preschool at a church in town and the rest of the time she is usually beside me. She is in her first year of Dance and is just loving it, she can't wait until Dance recital in May!

So that should catch you up a little bit, and I will try to post some photos about all of the above things that have gone by, and hopefully manage to keep you up to date!

Mostly I really want to do this for my Aunt Beryl as I know how much she enjoys seeing the kids and knowing what is going on. My Aunt is fighting Cancer and after a year will finally be seen at Cancer Treatment Center in a few weeks, I am praying for more answers for her so that she can feel better. I know God had great plans for her still! Love you Aunt Beryl!
